HOW TO GET YOUR CHILD THE BEST KEY STAGE RESULTS

The highest Scaled Score achievable in Key Stage 1 and 2 are 115 and 120 respectively. Based on the time and resources you have, set your child’s target as high as possible. For those attending Cherry Hill Tuition and for those with enough time, we will normally set the targets as close to these maximums as possible.

If you do not attend Cherry Hill, set targets around 10 points higher than what your child’s school teacher predicted in your first term report. 

Aim to complete past papers for the SATs as regularly as you can to practise key techniques that will be needed in the final exams. This will also help your child troubleshoot which topics they may still need to work on. Scheduling this revision will also help your child improve their organisational skills and retention of the work they are studying. 

Past Key Stage exam paper practise is necessary for the following reasons:

• They train the brain to apply the knowledge it has learnt. The best results in your final exams require learning and then “applying” knowledge. 
• They allow you to adapt to exam conditions, creating a mock testing dynamic. 
• They encourage your brain to access a multitude of different topics in a very short period of time, exactly as your brain will be required to do in the final Key Stage exams. 
• Ensure you always time each attempt on all past exam practise papers you do to ensure you are improving your speed. 
• Past key stage 1 and key stage 2 exam papers definitely act as a great revision source. 

Cherry Hill Tuition students in years 2 and 6 are issued the best past exam papers for the Key Stages, with the students carefully guided through the above steps.  Naturally those that start the tuition when they are younger are always better prepared than the students that start the tuition late. However, even those that start the tuition late are in a stronger position than if they never started at all with us.
